Pediatric Surgery – Southern California
Description
Ranked as one of the Best Children’s Hospitals in seven specialties by U.S. News & World Report in 2023-24, Valley Children’s Healthcare is seeking a Board-Certified Pediatric Surgeon to join their expanding team. We’re looking for a conscientious, skilled pediatric surgeon to establish and build a new service at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, located just over two hours from both Valley Children’s 358-bed freestanding children’s hospital and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
With brand-new Pediatric Surgical Suites scheduled to open in the winter of 2025, the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital will ensure that pediatric specialty care is delivered to children in and around Kern County.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join Valley Children’s team of nine pediatric surgeons who perform more than 3,700 general surgeries per year covering more than 200 types of surgical procedures, ranging from routine to rare and complex.
Since 1952, Valley Children’s has cared for Kern County children. In 2018, the 52,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Eagle Oaks Specialty Care Center opened, offering pediatric specialty care including pediatric audiology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric hematology, pediatric medical imaging, pediatric nephrology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric otolaryngology, pediatric plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, and urology.
Valley Children’s offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, including a signing bonus and relocation.
About Bakersfield Memorial Hospital
Established in 1956, Dignity Health Bakersfield Memorial Hospital is now the largest regional medical center in the Southern Valley and was recently recognized by The Leapfrog Group for excellence in patient care and safety for the “A” Hospital Safety Grade.
The only comprehensive pediatric program in Bakersfield and Kern County, the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital is named in honor of a local girl who inspired the community through her brave two-year battle with cancer. This children’s center includes the Robert A. Grimm Children’s Pavilion for Emergency Services, the only dedicated pediatric emergency department between Los Angeles and Madera; a 31-bed Level II NICU; an eight-bed PICU; and a 35-bed Pediatric Unit with around-the-clock in-house pediatric hospitalists. In addition, ithe facility is home to the S.A. Camp Companies Burn Unit at the Grossman Burn Center, which provides dedicated burn care for the youngest patients on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
About Bakersfield
Located near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley and the Central Valley region, Bakersfield is also the population center point of California. Located only four hours away from 90% of the state’s population, the city is only a little more than two hours away from Morro Bay and the Pacific Ocean, and just two hours from the Los Angeles metro area.
With nearly a half million residents and a metro area population of 909,235, Bakersfield is the ninth-most populous city in California but is also in the middle of one of the largest agricultural-producing regions in the world—from grapes to almonds, alfalfa to cotton, even roses. And with more sunny days than any other city in the valley, Bakersfield offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy both the outdoors and top city destinations with a location that is less than two hours from Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks and less than three hours from San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Yosemite National Park, Palm Springs and Orange County.
It's no surprise that Bakersfield is a growing city and an affordable and attractive West Coast location!
