Description

We’re seeking fellowship-trained Board Certified and Board Eligible Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physicians to join the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine working at CHRISTUS Children’s (formerly The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio), the first and only freestanding, academic, not-for-profit children’s hospital in San Antonio. Ideal candidates are physicians who are excited to work in a busy downtown emergency department where they will see an interesting mix of complex cases as well as the usual pediatric illnesses and injuries. Physicians are supported by Advanced Practice Providers.

Located in the nation’s seventh largest city and the second largest city in Texas, San Antonio offers a pediatric population expected to grow an additional 30 percent over the next 20 years, offering an exceptional professional opportunity. CHRISTUS Children’s is designated as a Level III trauma center and has a 44-bed pediatric ED that currently sees about 70,000 visits per year.

Interested candidates should be committed to education, collaboration, and excellence in patient care. The positions offer ample opportunities for teaching the pediatric, emergency medicine and family medicine residents, as well as medical students, who rotate through the department. CHRISTUS Children’s offers excellent subspecialty support including in-house hospitalists, intensivists, and neonatologists. The team takes primary ownership of many hospital-based operations including quality and process improvement and patient safety initiatives. The Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Clinical Research Center with more than 200 active research studies supported by $5.3 million in state, federal, and foundation grants is available for those interested in pursuing or continuing clinical research.

Physicians who are fellowship-trained in pediatric emergency medicine are desired; however, board-certified emergency medicine physicians with experience and a passion for caring for children will also be considered. Pediatricians with significant emergency department experience are also encouraged to apply. The academic ran and appointment will be determined by the candidate’s credentials and experience.

These positions are employed by Baylor College of Medicine and offer a highly competitive salary and excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision, 401(a) Retirement Plan, 403(b) Tax-Deferred Investment Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), adoption assistance, Long Term Disability (LTD), financial counseling and life insurance.

About San Antonio

The Alamo City is one of Texas’ most historic and charming metro areas, blending Old West history, Spanish heritage and all the energy of a big city with the warm, welcoming feel of a small town.

Residents are drawn to San Antonio by its housing prices, which are comparatively lower than other large U.S. cities, along with the area’s sunny weather and mild winters, rich diversity, excellent public and private schools, abundance of green space, professional sports, top-notch restaurants, two major amusement parks, shopping, nightlife, entertainment and a strong regional economy—plus easy access to a major airport. Stroll or take a river barge along The River Walk, the city’s 15-mile urban waterway.

On the weekends, you can take a short drive from the bustling heart of the city (with its abundant restaurants, shops and galleries) to the beauty and wide open spaces of the Texas Hill Country with its rolling hills and big Texas skies. You’re also conveniently located to explore Austin (less than 90 minutes), Houston (less than three hours), Dallas (about four hours) or the beaches of Galveston (less than four hours).

Plus, as a resident of Texas, you’ll pay no state income tax.
