About San Antonio
San Antonio is one of Texas’ most historic and charming metropolitan areas, blending Old West history, Spanish heritage and all the energy of a big city with the warm, welcoming feel of a small town.
Residents are drawn to San Antonio by its housing prices, which are comparatively lower than other large U.S. cities, along with the area’s sunny weather and mild winters (that offer an annual average of more than 300 days of sunshine), rich diversity, top-tier public and private schools, abundance of green space, professional sports, top-notch restaurants, two major amusement parks, shopping, nightlife, entertainment and a strong regional economy—plus easy access to a major airport. The city really has something for everyone to love — whether it’s the year-round festivals celebrating the different cultures and occasions of the area, abundant art at the San Antonio Museum of Art or Witte Museum, exploring the 56-acre San Antonio Zoo, relive the city’s history at The Alamo or enjoy a day or evening at The Pearl or stroll or cruise along The River Walk, the city’s 15-mile urban waterway.
On the weekends, you can take a short drive from the bustling heart of the city (with its abundant restaurants, shops. museums and galleries) to the beauty and wide-open spaces of the Texas Hill Country with its rolling hills, springs and rivers; its charming towns with rich history and diverse heritage and big Texas skies. You’re also conveniently located to explore Austin (less than 90 minutes), Houston (less than three hours), Dallas (about four hours) or the beaches of Galveston (less than four hours). And with no state income tax, living in Texas is even better.
