Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and Wake Forest University School of Medicine seek an accomplished Section Head and Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. We’re looking for a visionary, experienced leader who is committed to advancing clinical excellence, education, and research within a thriving academic medical center in beautiful Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Additional fellowship training and expertise in neuromuscular care, spinal deformity, or complex limb deformity are welcomed, but not required for consideration.

Position Overview

The Chief will lead the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Section at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Brenner Children’s Hospital, now part of Atrium Health Levine Children's, and serve as liaison to the Children’s Hospital leadership team, the Section, and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. In this position, you will play a pivotal role in expanding the program’s regional and national presence, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and mentoring the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

The team provides compassionate, high-quality medical and surgical care to pediatric patients, integrating expertise across 10 subspecialties to deliver innovative, multidisciplinary treatment. A strong commitment to research and education ensures that the department remains at the forefront of advancing orthopaedic and rehabilitation care through clinical breakthroughs, interdepartmental collaboration, and cutting-edge training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Program Development: Oversee and advance a comprehensive pediatric orthopaedic surgery program, ensuring excellence in patient care, innovation, and growth.
  • Clinical Excellence: Manage conditions related to comprehensive pediatric orthopaedic care from birth to early adulthood providing expertise in treating conditions related to the broad spectrum of congenital, developmental, and traumatic disorders.
  • Education & Mentorship: Provide exceptional training and mentorship to orthopaedic and podiatric surgery residents and medical students.
  • Research & Innovation: Engage in and promote cutting-edge clinical and laboratory research that advances the pediatric orthopaedic section.

  • 4 Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeons (all active POSNA members)
  • 1 Non-Operative Pediatric Orthopedist
  • 1 Pediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Physician
  • 2 Pediatric Orthopaedic APPs
  • 1 Pediatric Athletic Trainer
  • 1 Physical Therapy Assistant

Candidate Qualifications

  • Board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Fellowship trained and Board-certified in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Active membership in the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA)
  • Eligible for North Carolina Medical Licensure
  • Proven leadership experience with a strong commitment to the clinical, education, and research mission of the Department and the Section.
