About Memphis

With a rich historical heritage, Memphis is investing billions in its future and over the past decade has been creating a downtown revitalization that brought Condé Nast Traveler to name it among one of only two U.S. locations in its global list of the 23 Best Places to Go in 2023.  Although it is known as the “Home of the Blues,” Memphis is alive with the sounds that shaped it—with world renowned jazz and blues, as well as options for the arts that include the symphony, opera, ballet, theater, and museums to enjoy.

One of the most historic cities of the South, Memphis is also a center of global transit and offers scenic and revitalized neighborhoods bustling with retail, music, breweries and award-winning restaurants, along with outstanding institutions of higher education, and a thriving medical district. Although it is one of the largest metropolitan areas in Tennessee with a population of 1.3 million, the region’s small-town atmosphere makes it feel like a close-knit community making it attractive for families. And if you love being active outdoors, the vast Mississippi Riverfront provides countless outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing and boating, with a city-wide emphasis on annual music and food festivals.

The city also offers an exciting sports scene, including multiple colleges, an NBA team (Memphis Grizzlies), AAA baseball (Memphis Redbirds) and USL soccer (901 FC). Plus, with a very low cost of living and no state income tax, Memphis is perfect for the whole family!
