Description

We’re seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in  taking care of children with autism in a multidisciplinary setting. This is an exciting opportunity to aid in the growth of the CHOC Children’s Thompson Autism Center to raise awareness, support, therapy, education, and research for children and families affected by ASD. This position will work 50% in the Autism Center and 50% providing inpatient services to CHOC Children’s Mental Health Unit. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Named in honor of a $10 million founding gift from the William and Nancy Thompson Family Foundation (Thompson Family Foundation), The Thompson Autism Center is devoted to evaluating children as early as possible to promote better outcomes; engaging children whose behaviors diminish quality of life for them and their families; and establishing a long-term support system for children with complex care needs. Located just blocks away from CHOC’s main campus, the two-story, 20,000-square-foot facility was opened in the spring of 2020 and was designed by FKP/CannonDesign, an architectural and design firm with national experience in neuroscience, brain and autism projects at children’s hospitals. It is divided into three distinct areas: therapy rooms, assessment rooms, and multidisciplinary exam rooms. The entire facility was designed to provide a calm, comfortable, non-threatening environment for children with ASD.

The team at The Thompson Autism Center includes pediatric neurologists, developmental and behavioral pediatricians, and child psychiatrists.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and collaborative team player who is committed to growing and developing their diagnostic and treatment skills to help children with autism.  We’re seeking someone with a passion for teaching residents and fellows as well as expanding autism awareness within families and the community.  An interest in clinical research is also desired.
